Responsible for ongoing placement of positive stories in local, regional and national media about Saint Louis University Hospital and DesPeres Hospital to improve the awareness of capabilities and positive perception of the hospitals. This role is essential to support ongoing efforts to drive managed care patients to SLU and DesPeres Hospitals, and to support each hospital's key growth initiatives.

Public Relations Manager must develop relationships with physicians and clinical staff that lead to development and placement of positive patient care stories for the Hospital. This includes research, interviews, writing, seeking appropriate approvals, gathering support materials such as photos and videos, and successful placement of developed stories in all appropriate traditional and social media outlets.

Placement of appropriate physician, clinical staff and/or administrator on live and taped broadcast news and information programs, providing appropriate physician as expert in topical health related news; coordination of media relations with PR director of Saint Louis University clinical practice (SLUCare); writing and posting of physician blogs on Hospitals' websites to increase traffic, and providing updates to Hospitals' social media sites to ensure maximum saturation of positive coverage.

Creation of bi-weekly communication for Tenet Home office, Hospital and University's leadership that highlights the ongoing positive press coverage for SLU and DesPeres Hospitals.

Sharing of stories with internal local and home office publications to improve employee engagement.

Job Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Marketing or Public Relations required. Master's degree preferred.

Must have outstanding writing skills and broad understanding of hospitals and health care.

Must have proven track record of successful placement of health and healthcare related stories and minimum 10 years' experience in public relations.

Must have in-depth knowledge of local media outlets in both broadcast and print and ability to cultivate relationships with members of media to ensure fair consideration of all proactive and reactive media.

Must have in-depth knowledge of all social media and blog sites that can promote positive stories to both the general public and referring physicians.

Must be able to support Director of PR and marketing during times of major crisis that results in multiple media stories (locally and nationally)

Must be able to both respond to requested for story development from key physicians and hospital leadership and strategic development of stories that support hospital's key targeted growth initiatives.

Must be able to work independently while under direction of hospitals' leadership.
